Call for Proposals
"Share and Defend" - 2nd Family Outreach Conference

The Proclamation on the Family encourages and calls upon all citizens to "promote those measures designed to maintain and strengthen the family." In an effort to continue promoting “those measures” the Family Life Education Institute and the BYU School of Family Life are holding the 2nd Family Outreach Conference at Brigham Young University in Provo , Utah on February 6, 2004 , from 8am to 6pm in the Ernest L. Wilkinson Center . The Conference brings together family advocates to learn from each other in their family-strengthening efforts . The Conference will also provide attendees with ideas, encouragement, and specific resources to go forward in sharing and defending the Proclamation on the Family . We invite you to submit a proposal targeted for the following audience in one of the outlined formats:

Target Audience: family advocates from many arenas (i.e. students, alumni, family professionals, community members, religious leaders, and all interested citizens)

Break-out Session – 45-minute session describing what you are doing to strengthen marriages and families. Be prepared to discuss how others can use/apply what you have done in other communities or realms. Please allow time for questions and answers. A suggested outline for this time is to present for 30 minutes and allow 15 minutes at the end to explore applications and/or questions and answers; or you may weave this time into your presentation, allowing at least 5 minutes at the end for questions and answers. A presentation might be: Internet Marriage Classes (you discuss the class you developed, what you have learned, as well as what others are doing in this area and how others might learn or expand on what you've done).

Learning Circle - 30-minute session discussing the "how-tos" of strengthening marriages and families. Your topic should focus on practicing family life education in specific contexts or on involvement approaches. Some topics might include: harmonizing your own family with your family outreach efforts, presenting, developing materials, grant writing, developing programs, finding curriculum and resources, organizing retreats, public policy, writing, consulting, presenting, grant writing, etc. Topics might also include how to get involved strengthening families in schools, the military, the community, corporations, in conjunction with counseling, health care, media, etc.

Proposals should be 1-2 typed, double spaced pages and included a substantive description of the topic and issues. It should also include a brief description of 2-3 sentences for use in the conference schedule.

If selected you will receive from us:

  • a confirmation of presentation time(s) and room(s) (You may be asked to repeat your presentation, depending upon availability and demand.)
  • the materials and equipment necessary for your presentation
  • a request to email or mail your handout for reproduction on or before January 23
  • complimentary registration and lunch

We will also have exhibits available to help individuals or organizations share materials and/or information throughout the conference day. If this format is more relevant for you or your organization, please provide a description of your organization, program, etc., how participants can get involved, and how your organization or program relates to the conference and the theme. Cost is $100 per exhibit. Email lissel@familylifeeducation.org for details. If you prefer, we will have a take-one booth where pamphlets or flyers may be made available to attendees at no cost.

We invite you to come and learn, share ideas and resources, network with other Latter-day Saints, receive motivation, and return to strengthen families in your homes and communities. Help us to explore the multitude of ways we can reach out to strengthen families, our communities, and our world with through our differing talents and interests.
